How the random draw works

  1. Your list is cleaned up. Entries are split one per line or at commas, extra spaces and blank lines are dropped, and duplicates are removed so each person has one entry. With “Ignore invalid emails” on, anything that isn’t an email address (like a CSV header row) is left out. The big number in the results panel is exactly how many entries go into the draw.
  2. The draw uses secure randomness. The tool asks your browser for random numbers from crypto.getRandomValues, the generator built for security work like encryption keys, and uses them to shuffle the list (a Fisher-Yates shuffle). Every entry has the same chance: with N entries and k winners, each one has a k / N chance of winning. Nobody, including us, can steer or predict the result.
  3. Winners and alternates come from one draw. They are picked together without replacement, so no entry can win twice or be both a winner and an alternate.
  4. The animation is just for show. The result is fixed the moment you press Draw; the rolling names only make the reveal fun to watch or screen-record. If you’ve turned on reduced motion, winners appear instantly.

For a draw your entrants can trust, publish the rules and the draw date ahead of time, stop accepting entries before you draw, count the first result, and save the CSV (it records the date, time, and entry count).

How to pick a random winner from a list of emails

  1. Get your entries. Export them as a CSV from wherever you collected them: your email platform, a Google Form or Typeform, a spreadsheet, or your store’s order list. You don’t need to tidy the file first.
  2. Paste or upload the list. Drop the CSV or TXT file onto the box above, or paste the emails in, one per line or separated by commas.
  3. Check the cleanup. The tool trims spaces, removes blank lines and duplicate emails, and skips anything that isn’t an email address, such as column headers or names. The results panel shows exactly how many entries are left.
  4. Choose winners and alternates. Pick up to 50 winners, plus optional alternates in case a winner doesn’t respond.
  5. Draw and save the results. Copy the winners, or download a CSV with the draw date, time, and entry count for your records. Turn on masking before you share the results publicly.

Frequently Asked Questions

›Is the winner picked at random?

Yes. The draw uses your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source used to create encryption keys, not Math.random. Every entry left after cleanup has exactly the same chance of winning.

›Can I run the draw again?

Yes. Press Draw again for a completely new, independent result. For a fair contest, decide before you start that the first draw counts, and use alternates if a winner can’t be reached rather than redrawing until you like the result.

›Is my email list stored or uploaded?

No. Nothing leaves your browser. Pasted text and uploaded files are read on your own device, the draw runs there, and the CSV download is created there too. We never see, send, or save your list, and it is gone when you close the page.

›How are duplicate entries handled?

Duplicates are removed before the draw, ignoring capitalization and extra spaces, so someone who entered three times still has one chance. The tool shows how many duplicates it removed. If repeat entries should count as extra chances, use the weighted giveaway picker instead.

›What are alternates?

Alternates are backup winners drawn at the same time as the winners, in order. If a winner doesn’t reply or turns the prize down, contact alternate 1, then 2, and so on. Nobody can be both a winner and an alternate.

›How many entries can it handle?

Lists of 10,000 or even 100,000 entries work fine. Paste them or upload a CSV or TXT file up to 20 MB. You can draw up to 50 winners and 50 alternates at once.

›Can I post the winners publicly?

Turn on “Mask entries for public posting” to show winners as j***@gmail.com. The copied text and the CSV download use the masked view too, so you can share them without exposing anyone’s full address.

›Can I pick from names instead of emails?

Yes. Turn off “Ignore invalid emails” and the tool will draw from any text, one entry per line or separated by commas: names, ticket numbers, or social media handles.
